Grow Report – Baby Boom Auto

By: Contributor Grow Reports

With a balanced compendium of effects for the mind and body, delicious fruity flavours, and easy-to-grow characteristics, Baby Boom Auto by Kannabia has everything she needs to captivate growers who are looking for a high-quality cannabis strain that doesn’t require masses of care.

Baby Boom Auto’s feminised autoflowering seeds can produce dynamic and sustainable plants in just 10 weeks from germination, whilst still being resistant to all the usual suspects. There’s not much that can go wrong with this strain, so sit back and relax while the plant does all the work. You can check all of this for yourself in the following grow report that we’ve dedicated to one of the most beloved automatic varieties of our catalogue.

Baby Boom Auto’s genetic lineage

There’s no better way of obtaining a top-class strain than by crossing two genetics of proven reliability like Northern Lights and Blueberry. This is a great mix of two timeless classics that captures the best of each of them.

By combining these two incredible strains with the non-photo-dependent features of a powerful ruderalis, the result couldn’t be anything other than Baby Boom Auto: a plant that punches above her weight and will surely become essential in your next grow.

Aroma and flavour

In terms of fragrance, think of a basket of summer forest fruits. Blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries… A sweet and fruity aroma, toned down with some Skunk notes, which never becomes too sweet, as it also includes other elements such as sharp pine hues combined with spicy citrus fruits that go beyond the usual lemon freshness.

However, the smoking taste is much more balanced: a syrupy inhalation followed by an acidic exhalation, both of which form a tasty combo, tempting the taste buds in all the right places; and all rounded off with a deep earthy undertone reminiscent of beetroot.

Effects

This strain’s smoking experience is a good representation of an indica hybrid that combines Blueberry’s looks and Northern Lights’ psychoactive powers. Both mental and physical, she provides the perfect balance between clarity and pain relief. This is the best variety for those days when you need the physical strength of an indica, but you don’t necessarily want to fall prey to the lethargy that sometimes comes with it.

With her strong cerebral high, Baby Boom induces euphoric thoughts for serious mental stimulation, instantly elevating your mind to a state of carefree happiness. And while you’re busy with this blessed mental trip, her indica side creeps up on you, melting you down as you stretch out in the most comfortable spot possible, and embracing your whole body to lull you into a deep sleep.

Although Baby Boom Auto is an outstanding strain for recreational purposes, she’s also a reliable variety for the relief of pain and inflammation. Given that her happy and worry-free mental trip is so uplifting, she’s also a great option to help get rid of stress, anxiety, and depression. And her potent ‘munchies’ effect can be used to increase appetite in people who suffer from eating disorders, or in those who experience nausea as a side effect of chemotherapy.

How do you grow this autoflowering strain?

Baby Boom Auto’s indica dominance means that she’s a firm and robust auto that doesn’t require any support, as her branches are strong enough to withstand the weight. This plant is also highly resistant to mould, fungi, and to the most common diseases in cannabis, which makes her an ideal variety for rookies who are looking to develop their growing skills with a plant that they simply cannot fail with.

This compact but tireless marijuana plant only needs a little TLC to be kept under control and ready to produce an abundant and heavenly yield of high-quality buds: big, solid nuggets, with such a good trichome layer that the plant looks more white than green. Their remarkable fusion of size and density hypnotises the senses; so make sure you indulge yourself good and proper, like always!

Now let’s have a look at how to grow this beauty in the following report.

Germination phase

Week 0

The grower starts with a single seed, which he puts in water with Clonex and seaweed extract (Kelp 0.30 – 0.25 – 0.15). He adds Dynomyco (mycorrhizal fungi inoculant) to the substrate. The seed is kept in the water until it sinks, and then is moved directly to the soil. Germination is 100% successful.

Week 1

In the first week, the seedling has sprouted and is growing well. A bag by The Exhale is hung in the grow tent: this is an indoor CO2 production system consisting of a fungal mycelium mass with an air vent, which provides a continuous CO2 shower for the optimisation of the photosynthetic processes. The following levels are established as the starting point:

Grow parameters:

  • Daily temperature: 23ºC
  • Height: 0 – 2.54 cm
  • Substrate temperature: 21ºC
  • Night temperature: 20ºC
  • Hours of light: 20
  • Air humidity: 50%
  • CO2 level: 1100 PPM

Seedling / vegetative phase

Week 2

During the second week, the cotyledons give way to the first pair of true leaves, which develop better with higher humidity levels. Therefore, water is sprayed on them, with their colour showing that this is the right decision. The grower spots that the roots are beginning to sprout at the bottom of the germination container.

Week 3

In the third week, the seedling is transplanted to a 1 gallon (3.79 L) fabric pot to promote the aeration of the roots. The stem is getting thicker and is developing lateral branches. A constant breeze is created around the branches to strengthen them. The nutrient plan is still reverse osmosis water with algae-based nutrients and Clonex. More Dynomyco is also added to the substrate during transplantation.

Week 4

In the fourth week, the plant really takes off and shoots up to a height of 23 cm. She has developed five nodes, from which side branches are beginning to sprout. This plant is developing extremely quickly, with the first signs of the preflowering starting to show on day 28. She has an intense green colour, and all the fan leaves are full of life as they absorb the light to complete the vital process of photosynthesis.

Grow parameters:

  • Daily temperature: 23ºC
  • Height: 22.86 cm
  • Substrate temperature: 21ºC
  • Night temperature: 20ºC
  • Hours of light: 20
  • Distance between lamp and plant: 40.64 cm
  • Air humidity: 50%
  • CO2 level: 1100 PPM
  • pH: 5

Early flowering phase

Week 5

During the fifth week, Baby Boom Auto keeps growing at a wicked pace up to a height of 38 cm. She has also developed lateral branches with multiple tips. She has started flowering by herself, so there’s no need to change the photoperiod, which is maintained at 20 hrs of light / 4 hrs of darkness, so that the plant can rest and carry out her metabolic processes. The internodal spacing is beginning to increase, which allows for good air flow throughout the canopy.

Week 6

Week 6 marks the period when Baby Boom Auto stretches up the most, going from 38 to 54 cm. She especially develops her apical bud, and she shows incredible elasticity. Numerous buds start to form, and the side branches are spread evenly. To promote continuous growth, the nutrient solution is raised to 14 ml/L. The large fan leaves are removed to enable direct light to reach all the bud areas. We begin to see how the pistils multiply exponentially, and trichomes are starting to develop on the leaves.

Week 7

In the seventh week, the plant keeps stretching until she reaches a height of 63.5 cm, almost tripling the height of three weeks ago. The stunning buds full of whitish stigmas keep piling up. Baby Boom Auto’s aroma starts to express itself with greater intensity, and you can catch notes of blueberries and spicy citrus fruits with a delicious Skunk background.

Week 8

In week 8, vertical growth stops, and the buds continue to increase in size as all the growth potential is now directed towards them. The bracts begin to turn slightly purple, which denotes this plant’s Blueberry lineage. The lower leaves look slightly discoloured, and there’s small signs of the tips being burnt. Therefore, the composition of the nutrient solution is not increased, and remains stable at 14 ml/L. The grow parameters will also be kept the same until harvest time.

Grow parameters:

  • Daily temperature: 23ºC
  • Height: 63.5 cm
  • Substrate temperature: 21ºC
  • Night temperature: 20ºC
  • Hours of light: 20
  • Distance between lamp and plant: 40.64 cm
  • Air humidity: 50%
  • CO2 level: 1100 PPM
  • pH: 5

Full flowering stage

Week 9

In week nine, Baby Boom Auto looks great. The buds keep getting fatter, and the dense trichomes are becoming more visible. Funnily enough, the plant grows like a sativa with her elastic structure and large main cola, which begins to fill up all over with flowers. The small burns on the tips of the leaflets have curled upwards, so the nutrient levels are left unchanged. No special training technique is applied, except for the defoliation of the lower leaves that have turned more yellow.

Week 10

In the tenth week, the buds become denser and tighter, and their overall structure expands dramatically, producing huge amounts of trichomes. “In comparison to other indicas, she definitely has more sativa growth and structural features!”, the grower points out. The leaves begin to turn lighter green, which is another indicator that the plant is about to enter the maturity stage. This is also observed in the pistils: they start to oxidise and retract into the bracts, which keep being decorated with fine shades of purple.

Ripening stage

Week 11

In week eleven, the trichomes begin to fill all the free space that there is on the buds and on the sugar leaves that surround them. Baby Boom Auto looks vigorous and healthy. There’s an increase in brown stigmas, which is a visual indicator that it’s time to inspect the colour of the trichomes to determine the maximum ripening point. This shows that another week is needed before harvest time. The huge main cola causes a slight overload on the apical bud, but there’s no need to use stakes due to the high physical resistance of this strain.

Week 12

We start the last week of cultivation. As the plant reaches the end of her life, the senescence process starts, which causes the leaves to lose their colour and die. There’s a change in the proportion of the trichome heads, which go from being transparent to turning milky and slightly amber-coloured. The grower decides to stop the nutrients and start the flushing of the roots, using only pure water. The truth is, it’s been a relatively quick grow (86 days from seed to harvest). Now the tent emanates a fresh aroma of forest berries… It’s time to cut!

Harvest

After the manicuring of the moist buds and their subsequent drying, Baby Boom Auto’s buds weigh a total of 52 grams per plant. Using our 300W LED lamp, the ratio is 0.17 grams / watt. The plant has been grown in a 20 cm pot, so the final yield is estimated at 273.68 grams / m2.

Through the entire growing process, Baby Boom Auto showed a similar terpene profile, which evolved as the plant went through the different stages. As the flowers were growing, the buds released a sweet and Skunky aroma fused with fine earthy notes. During the drying, this earthy scent transformed into gentle floral hues.

Despite the fact that this plant has grown an internodal structure that is more characteristic of the sativa strains, her flowers are typically indica: medium-sized, dense, and solid buds which are grouped together in elongated conical forms. Baby Boom Auto worked really well with an essential water and nutrient plan that barely changed throughout her life cycle, which is very similar to what happened with the various grow parameters.

This is a plant with a high calyx-leaf ratio that has been really easy to grow, harvest, and trim. If we add her potency to the mix (THC levels around 20%), we can say that this is a particularly good option for both rookie growers and for those looking for a top yield with minimum effort.

Therefore, if you’ve never experienced a strain with such captivating traits, we strongly recommend that you try Baby Boom Auto in your next grow… You definitely won’t regret it!
